Embarking on higher education at St George’s University represents a formidable opportunity, especially for African students aiming to make their mark in the global arena. The university prides itself on fostering academic excellence and offers a comprehensive scholarship programme designed to recognise and nurture this.

Undergraduate students with commendable academic achievements are encouraged to apply, as they stand a chance to be awarded scholarships that significantly reduce the financial pressures of studying abroad. These scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and can dramatically lower tuition costs, enabling students to focus more on their studies and less on financial concerns. At the graduate level, while St George’s University does not offer scholarships directly due to the already competitive nature of tuition fees, there is a provision for a number of graduate assistantship roles.

These roles not only offer a tuition waiver but also a chance to engage in research and teaching, providing a stipend as well. Such opportunities are invaluable for students looking to gain experience while also contributing to the university’s academic community.

It is advisable for potential scholarship recipients to apply as early as possible, as the process is competitive and the number of scholarships is limited. The university’s commitment to diversity and excellence is unwavering, and the scholarships are a testament to this ethos, aiming to bring together the brightest minds from across continents.

For more detailed information regarding deadlines, eligibility criteria, and application processes, Seed Educational Consulting provides tailored guidance to ensure that students from Africa have the necessary support to apply for these prestigious scholarships at St George’s University.

What comes next?

Upon your graduation from St. George’s University, you’ll become eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT). This exciting opportunity allows you to engage in off-campus work related to your field of study for up to 12 months (or an extended 36-month period if you’ve pursued a STEM major). Notably, this provides you with the chance to gain valuable work experience and receive compensation for your efforts. Your Freedom to Choose: It’s important to recognize that you have the flexibility to choose OPT both after finishing your Bachelor’s degree and after your Master’s program if you wish.

This flexibility empowers you to tailor your academic and career path in accordance with your unique aspirations. Taking the Next Academic Step: Many students at SGU view their time as the initial step towards attaining their Bachelor’s degree. Typically, you’ll complete your Freshman and Sophomore years (Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor’s program) before transferring to a 4-year university for your Junior and Senior years (Years 3 and 4). Bonus Year of OPT: While it’s common for students to eagerly transition to a university soon after completing their program at SGU, it’s worth noting that you may also be eligible for an additional year of OPT before continuing your university studies, if you prefer.

This supplementary year of OPT is a golden opportunity to accrue work experience and extra income. And remember, choosing OPT after St. George’s University keeps you eligible for an extra year of OPT after the completion of your Bachelor’s degree.
