Students at AUB benefit immensely from small class sizes, which fosters personalized attention, facilitating deeper understanding and fostering one-on-one mentorships with the faculty. This intimate educational environment is crucial, especially in the intricate field of medicine, as it promotes clearer communication and in-depth exploration of subjects. The university’s reputation extends beyond just stellar academics. AUB is renowned for its hands-on clinical rotations offered in affiliated hospitals in the US, UK, and Canada. This global exposure prepares its students not only academically but also culturally, an essential trait for doctors in an increasingly interconnected world. For African students eyeing a world-class medical education, coupled with the unique cultural experience of the Caribbean and global clinical exposure, the American University of Barbados emerges as a distinguished choice. As a top choice for African students looking to study abroad, AUB boasts a rich tapestry of programs tailored to meet the demands of the modern job market.

At the undergraduate level, AUB offers a diverse array of programs, with a strong emphasis on health sciences. This includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which prepares students for a rewarding career in healthcare. The program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience, ensuring students are well-equipped to meet the demands of the nursing profession.

For students with a passion for technology, AUB offers a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. This program provides students with a solid foundation in computer systems, software development, and information management, preparing them for a variety of roles in the fast-paced tech industry. At the graduate level, AUB stands out with its renowned Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. This program is recognized by the Medical Council of Canada and the World Directory of Medical Schools, ensuring international recognition for graduates.

The MD program at AUB is divided into two parts: the Basic Sciences Program, conducted in Barbados, and the Clinical Rotations program, which can be pursued in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, or India. AUB is committed to providing a holistic education experience, which is why it also offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. This program is designed to equip students with leadership and management skills, preparing them for roles in business administration, project management, and entrepreneurship.

AUB’s commitment to academic excellence, coupled with its picturesque Barbados setting, makes it an ideal destination for African students looking to study abroad. With a curriculum designed to meet global standards and a faculty committed to student success, AUB is more than just a university – it’s a launchpad for your future.

Scholarships

The American University of Barbados (AUB) offers a range of scholarships that serve as a beacon of hope for African students aspiring to study medicine.

Recognising the brilliance and potential of these students, AUB provides financial aid opportunities that are both merit-based and need-based, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder the pursuit of medical education. Undergraduate students who display exceptional academic records are automatically considered for scholarships that could cover a significant portion of their tuition fees.

The exact amount is determined by the students’ academic achievements and potential, as demonstrated in their previous studies. For graduate students, while scholarships are more limited due to the specialised nature of postgraduate medical programs, there are assistantship opportunities. These positions not only confer a reduction in tuition fees but also enable students to gain valuable hands-on experience in their field, which can be instrumental in their professional development.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply early and to present the full spectrum of their academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Although the competition for these scholarships is intense, they represent AUB’s commitment to fostering a diverse and dynamic student body. In collaboration with Seed Educational Consulting, AUB extends its reach to ensure that African students have access to detailed and transparent information regarding scholarship options, allowing them to make informed decisions about their international study journey.
