ILA Turkey
The institution
Since 1994, ILA Turkey has been offering English and Turkish language courses in the heart of Istanbul. ILA Turkey has developed links with 50 private universities and 17 public universities across Turkey – African students coming from English-speaking backgrounds may use ILA Turkey’s standalone university placement service to join the private university of their choice.
ILA Turkey is a test centre for the Pearson PTE test (one of the English language tests accepted by private Turkish universities as proof of English language proficiency) and for the TOMER test (an equivalent test for the Turkish language).
Majors
ILA Turkey teaches the English and/or Turkish language for those students looking to continue their university studies in Turkey. It is important to remember that public universities in Turkey will offer most of their courses in Turkish and no course at a public university is delivered entirely in English.
For that reason, Seed Educational Consulting proposes private Turkish universities to African students, where you will have a wide choice of courses delivered entirely in English. We are therefore mainly working with ILA to give options to African students that need to improve their English language skills before joining a private Turkish university.
However, learning some Turkish could help you to integrate more easily into the way of life and, post-graduation, your chances of finding a job in Turkey will be greatly increased if you have good Turkish language skills.
Scholarships
ILA Turkey is a private language school and so does not offer scholarships. However, there are many scholarships available at private Turkish universities and ILA Turkey’s strong links with 50 different private Turkish universities will give you plenty of scholarship opportunities.
Scholarship awards vary by university, course of study and, of course, your own past academic record. However, there may be scholarship awards of up to 70% off tuition fees for the very brightest students.
Location
ILA Turkey is located in the upmarket district of Sisli, on the European side of the Bosphorus river. Sisli is a popular district for tourists and locals due to its upscale hotels, fashion stores, shopping centres including the Cevahir Shopping Mall, and excellent restaurants. Osmanbey or Sisli metro stations are an 8 minute walk from the school building, from where you can quickly travel to Taksim Square, the beating heart of Istanbul, and the start of Istiklal Caddesi, one of the finest and diverse streets for walking along anywhere in the world.

Campus Life
ILA Turkey offers weekly activity programs which help students to practice their learning during visit historical or modern part of Istanbul. Due to the pandemic, the excursions are not running but there are speaking clubs at the school cafeteria and you can enjoy your time to practice your language with free Turkish tea!
Housing
ILA Turkey offers separate residences for male and female students.
The residence for male students is located 8 minutes’ walking distance from the school. Single, twin or quad rooms are available with prices ranging between $40 and $60 per week. Students will have access to communal bathrooms, a laundry and ironing room, a quiet study area, TV room and dining room. Breakfast is provided each morning at no additional cost and students also have free access to the laundry facilities and WIFI.
The residence for female students is located 7 minutes’ walking distance from the school. Small, medium or large rooms are available with prices ranging between $70 and $100 per week.
Female students will have access to communal bathrooms, a laundry and ironing room, a quiet study area, gym, dining room, high security entrance door controlled by fingerprint and 24/7 security cameras. What comes next?
Upon successful completion of your language programme, you will progress into one of ILA Turkey’s 50 private universities with which it is partnered.
African students may also stay and work in Turkey after successful completion of their university program and, in 3-5 years, can earn permanent residency. However, it is important to understand that those with plans to stay and work in Turkey should make efforts to learn the Turkish language to a conversational level at least: ILA Turkey also offers Turkish language programs.
